Martin Odegaard has told Stadium Astro that he is really pleased for Eddie Nketiah now he is getting his chance as he lauded the Arsenal striker for how hard he has worked this season.

Nketiah has showed a glimpse of his potential after starting the Gunners’ last two league games. He scored twice against Chelsea as Mikel Arteta’s men won 4-2 at Stamford Bridge.

And he followed that with another impressive display as Arsenal beat Manchester United.

Nketiah has only made three starts in the Premier League this season. But his last two showings have probably left some Arsenal fans wondering whether the club need to step up their push to try and agree a new contract with the 22-year-old.

He still has a lot to prove. But he has undoubtedly demonstrated just how good he could be in the future.

And Odegaard has joined with those lauding Nketiah in the wake of the last two games. He insisted that the youngster deserves the opportunities coming his way for how much work he has put in this season.

“He has worked so hard the whole season he has trained so good. I’m really happy for him. I think he deserved to play and get the goals. I’m really pleased for him and hopefully he can keep scoring,” he told Stadium Astro.

Plenty resting on the shoulders of Eddie Nketiah as Arsenal push for top-four

The race for the top-four is looking set to go right down to the wire. Arsenal are back in pole position. But you would imagine that there are going to be bumps in the road before the campaign concludes.

There certainly looks to be plenty of pressure on Nketiah’s shoulders. The striker has stepped up with the goals drying up for Alexandre Lacazette. And Arteta does not really have many other options to turn to.

As things stand, a summer exit may still be on the cards. But he has every reason to push himself, to either earn the best move elsewhere or secure the assurances he wants at Arsenal.
