Martin Keown believes that Tottenham attacker Lucas Moura should be unleashed on Manchester City on Wednesday night.
Spurs travel to the Etihad Stadium in the Champions League quarter-finals and lead 1-0 on aggregate from the first leg.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side beat Huddersfield in the Premier League at the weekend to continue their momentum and Lucas Moura was the star performer.
Moura, 26, returned to the starting XI and netted a brilliant hat-trick at the new home stadium.
The Brazilian attacker has found it difficult in 2019 so far, but now has 12 goals across all competitions this season and has surely played himself into contention against Manchester City.
Keown feels that the £23million signing (BBC) should be allowed to carry over his momentum for the European tie.
“He (Moura) showed outstanding technique with his second goal to control the ball with his left before volleying in with his right. His emphatic third was the sign of a player brimming with confidence,” Keown wrote in the Daily Mail.
“Moura must be allowed to take this momentum into Spurs’ Champions League quarter-final second leg against Manchester City at the Etihad on Wednesday.”
With Harry Kane sidelined through injury, Spurs do look light in attack ahead of their midweek fixture and Moura could be a real ace up Pochettino’s sleeve.
They hold a one-goal advantage over Manchester City, but their English rivals have been scintillating in attack for most of the season and will be confident at home.
Spurs may need to grab an away goal in the tie and it would make sense to deploy an in-form Moura that has just had the confidence of scoring a hat-trick.
But at the same time the rapid forward could be a dangerous option off the bench.
