Martin Keown says Martin Olsen is bringing ‘presence’ to Everton

Former Arsenal defender, Martin Keown, believes Robin Olsen has added a ‘calmness and presence’ to the Everton defence since his arrival.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti hasn’t quite decided who his number one is between Olsen and Jordan Pickford. Both have played and both, in equal measure, have done good things in the sticks.

However, with Pickford out injured at the moment and Olsen impressing at Leeds this week, Keown believes the experienced Swede is proving quite the signing.

“Ancelotti is saying I have two great keepers here. But Olsen the other night, he was absolutely magnificent. Maybe there’s a bit more presence and a bit more calmness with him in? I think Pickford is under pressure,” Keown told Talksport.

The former Arsenal man also believes the Toffees are not far off a top four push. Keown insisting the club aren’t far from getting it right and that the board should once again back Ancelotti.

For Pickford and Olsen, their fight remains a healthy one it seems and one which, in theory, should serve Pickford well.

Sometimes players get too comfortable in their position and it seemed to have been the case with Pickford. Yes, he’s still prone to the odd moment of madness or error, but he’s looked more assured this year.

Olsen, meanwhile, just looks exactly what Ancelotti brought him in to be. Experienced, assured, and calm when needed, he’s also a fine shot stopper as he proved at Elland Road this week.

Everton have a good problem here. There is no downside to having two top class goalkeepers.
