Martin Keown has told BT Sport that Unai Emery needs to make eight changes to his Arsenal side that drew with Portuguese minnows Vitoria on Wednesday night in the Europa League – as The Gunners travel to the King Power to play Leicester.
Arsenal fans were left frustrated once again as The Gunners produced a flat, lacklustre performance against a side that had previously failed to register a Europa League point beforehand. That changed on Thursday night.
A lack of creation or invention was more than evident in the Portuguese rain, as Emery watched on under his hood. But finally, Nicolas Pepe’s brilliant free-kick was expertly headed home by Shkodran Mustafi.
But Vitoria came roaring back, as Bruno Duarte scored in the 91st minute to score for Vitoria and secure a draw. In what is another disappointing result, Arsenal legend Keown believes Emery needs to make eightchanges for Saturday.
He feels Emi Martinez, Rob Holding, Mustafi, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Dani Ceballos, Joe Willock, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli need to be dropped. In come Bernd Leno, Calum Chambers, David Luiz, Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira, Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
TBR’s view – Is Keown’s side the best available Arsenal XI?
In the Premier League, the combination of both Luiz and Sokratis have proven that they struggle to keep a clean sheet. Luiz has a mistake in him, while Sokratis has hardly set the world alight. It is time to give faith to English defender Holding.
Chambers could also play in the middle of the defence, and bring 24-year-old Hector Bellerin back into the side at right-back. Aubameyang out wide is also a strange one, though it is difficult to incorporate all of Arsenal’s attacking weaponry.
