Martin Keown identifies two Leicester players he'd rather over James Maddison

Speaking to Stadium Astro, Martin Keown has identified two Leicester players he would rather Arsenal sign – before James Maddison. The Gunners continue to be linked with the England international. But Keown would prefer Leicester duo Wilfried Ndidi and Youri Tielemans at Arsenal.

A recent report from Fabrizio Romano states that while Arsenal are keen on Maddison, the priority has always been Real Madrid ace Martin Odegaard. Of course, the latter has spent time on loan at Arsenal and could prove to be cheaper than Maddison – who the Mirror claim is rated at £60million.

But following Arsenal’s loss to Brentford on Friday night, Keown was not happy. He thinks the Gunners need solidity in their defensive base – already boasting the creativity Maddison would offer. Asked about Maddison, Keown said he would rather Tielemans and Ndidi at Arsenal.

“The missing ingredient for Arsenal is steel,” Keown said. “I’m not sure Maddison is the player I would be going for. I’d rather Tielemans or Ndidi. I’m not going after Maddison because we need steel. We have creativity. The base of the midfield, Arsenal need to be buying an international player.”

Ndidi, Tielemans or Maddison – which should Arsenal pick, amid Keown comments?

Keown has hit the nail on the head. While new signing Albert Sambi Lokonga did little wrong, it was hardly an eye-catching performance. He is probably not going to be a player Mikel Arteta wants to start every match. Granit Xhaka was close to the exit door and criticism came his way again.

Arsenal need steel in midfield. Ndidi has long been linked with Arsenal and he would offer that defensive steel at the base of the midfield – but the Gunners do need creation from deep, too. Maddison is too attacking. But Tielemans balances the both. The Belgian would be perfect for Arsenal.
