Martin Keown has raved about the impact of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on Tottenham, as he’s become an ever-present in their side signed he joined in the summer.
Spurs signed the defensive midfielder from Southampton for £15million (Sky Sports) and he’s played every single minute in the Premier League so far this season.
Despite defeat on the opening day of the season for Jose Mourinho’s side, they are now second in the league table just a point from the top and looked in great form before the international break.
Hojbjerg has made a brilliant impact at his new club by becoming the anchor at the base of midfield, which allows him to provide cover for the defence and also dictate play.
The 25-year-old is perhaps underrated for the quality he possesses on the ball and a lot of Spurs’ play goes through him.
Keown has given a glowing verdict on the Denmark international:
“No Premier League player won possession more than Hojbjerg in 2019-20. He is streetwise and has brought that to Tottenham. Maybe in the past, opponents would look at Spurs and think they had a soft underbelly. ‘Lads, it’s Tottenham,’ Sir Alex Ferguson was famously quoted as saying in a team talk,” Keown wrote in the Daily Mail.
“But Hojbjerg is helping change that perception — and he can play, too. No player has passed the ball more in the Premier League this season than the Dane.”
Hojbjerg has added a bit of extra steel to the Spurs midfield and looks a total bargain at £15million.
Mourinho is desperate to turn his side into one that can get over the line to win silverware and he’s added some strong characters to his dressing room to try help achieve that.
Hojbjerg already looks a leader on the pitch with the way he organises players around him and he’s got the discipline, composure and understanding of the game that makes him such a vital individual in the XI.
