Martin Keown hails Arsenal player who’s ‘pure class’ ahead of City clash

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has singled Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out for praise ahead of the Gunners’ meeting with Manchester City.

The 32-year-old didn’t have the best season last time out, getting just 10 Premier League goals.

And Arsenal haven’t started the season well, losing their opening two league games.

However, the Gunners picked up a huge confidence boost in midweek.

Mikel Arteta’s charges ran out 6-0 winners at West Brom, with Aubameyang netting a hat-trick.

The Arsenal captain’s heroics came amid speculation linking him with a move away.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Juventus are eyeing the former Borussia Dortmund ace, who in turn is apparently keen on leaving Arsenal.

However, Mikel Arteta stressed earlier this week that Aubameyang isn’t in line for a sale.

And ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Manchester City, Keown praised the veteran marksman.

“Mikel Arteta says he feels as if his back is pinned against the wall and that criticism is coming in from all angles,” he wrote in the Daily Mail.

“Unfortunately this comes with the territory of being in charge of a big club.

“If you lose, the pressure is on. If you make mistakes tactically, then it will be highlighted.

“Wednesday’s 6-0 Carabao Cup win at West Brom showed — albeit against inferior opponents — that there is quality in the squad.

“Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looked pure class, despite recent reports which claimed Arsenal were ready to sell him.”
