Martin Keown claims that Leeds need a bit more restraint

Martin Keown has criticised the method of Leeds United this season and suggested that they may need to find a little more restraint in their game to help them defensively.

The Whites have had a wild return to the top-flight this season after promotion last year and have certainly lit up the Premier League with some enthralling games already.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have 10 points from their opening eight league games to represent a decent start, but the two results before the international break were back-to-back 4-1 defeats against Crystal Palace and Leicester City.

The Yorkshire giants have the joint-worst defensive record in the division along with West Brom due to their tally of 17 goals conceded, which is a rate that they need to try slow down.

Pundit Keown has urged Leeds boss Bielsa to perhaps tinker with his approach slightly to help out the backline.

“I don’t think Leeds have got the right balance in the way that they play. I don’t know if there needs to be a plan B, I think it’s more of a case of a bit more restraint… What I am seeing is there two central defenders being exposed,” Keown told talkSPORT.

TBR’s View:

It’s easy to say that Leeds are making obvious mistakes at the back, but the fact of the matter is they are playing a his risk style of football that helped them steamroll to promotion in the Championship and it’s drilled into the players.

They can learn a lot from Norwich City’s effort in the top-flight last season, as they were entertaining to watch but ultimately fell way short and suffered a relegation.

But Bielsa will be stubborn with his beliefs and ultimately Leeds are going to be fine this season if they cut out the individual errors that have crept in of late.
