Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has claimed that Tottenham’s Heung-Min Son didn’t deserve to win the Puskas award for best goal for 2020.
The Spurs forward captured the presitigious FIFA award for his wonderful solo effort against Burnley earlier in the year. Son, who has started this season on fire, ran from the edge of his own area before slotting past Nick Pope.

But speaking on TalkSport today and with what appeared to be his Arsenal hat firmly on, Keown insisted that he wasn’t having Son’s strike as the best of the year.
“I’m surprised it’s won an award of that esteem. I mean it’s a good goal but I don’t think it’s the best goal,” Keown said.
“I respect everything Spurs are doing. I respect it, but I didn’t think that it was (the best goal), no. It’s nothing to do with my Arsenal hat, I just think there has been better goals scored than that.”

Keown is often vocal in his opinions and has, as he pointed out, praised Spurs on more than one occasion this season. However, he seemed adamant in his opinion about Son here.

The Arsenal and Spurs rivalry remains a great one and there is definitely a hint of Keown looking for a reaction here.
The problem is, he is so straight faced that it’s impossible to tell if he’s trying to reel Spurs fans in or if he genuinely has that opinion of the goal from Son.
For what it’s worth, it was a stunning goal and more than deserved the award. Keown, then, could just get a few nibbles with this one.
