'I always felt': Martin Keown makes Tottenham admission which will rile Arsenal fans

Arsenal legend, Martin Keown, has admitted that he always had a feeling Tottenham would pip the Gunners to fourth place due to the quality and fixtures on offer.

Tottenham are set to beat the Gunners to fourth spot, with a comfortable looking game at Norwich the final hurdle for Antonio Conte’s men. Of course, there is the chance the Canaries pull off a major shock, while Arsenal need to overcome Everton.

However, Martin Keown – who is a legend at Arsenal from the 90s and 2000s – has been speaking about the top four race today and conceded he never felt Arsenal were going to pip their north London rivals in the end.

“I think it comes down to quality. It was quite a worrying performance (against Newcastle). The way that they were so much better than Arsenal. Really very, very disappointing,” Keown told TalkSport.

“I always felt that Spurs were going to pip Arsenal, from some time ago and looking at their fixtures. I know there’s progress being made at Arsenal, finishing 8th and then 5th. I think Arteta will be given the time to get his team right, he’s just signed a new three year contract. But he needs to get the necessary players in.”

Two points separate the sides going into Sunday. However, Spurs also have a massive goal difference compared to Arsenal, essentially meaning anything but a defeat for Tottenham gives them that top four place.

TBR’s View: Keown Admission On Tottenham Probably Echoes Arsenal Fans

Well, in the last few weeks it will have anyway. Arsenal seemed to crumble when it mattered and they went from being outright favourites to take fourth, to being quite easily ousted.

Tottenham put together a run of form at the right time while the Gunners simply buckled under the pressure. Keown’s comments on the worrying performance at Newcastle, as well as his prediction about the top four, will ring true here.
