Marsch says Mateusz Bogusz could become an option for Leeds
Jesse Marsch has suggested that Mateusz Bogusz could become an option to him almost two years since the Pole’s last appearance for Leeds United – in comments reported by Leeds Live.
Bogusz had become something of a forgotten man at Elland Road. There was a stage when the attacking midfielder looked destined for a big role under Marcelo Bielsa.
Bogusz went on the pre-season tour to Australia in 2019 and actually scored for the Whites. Unfortunately, the 20-year-old has only made three competitive appearances for Leeds since.
Instead, Bogusz spent much of the last two years on loan in Spain, with his most recent spell taking him to Ibiza. However, a serious injury cut his season short last year.
He has not featured in Leeds’ pre-season. And with that, supporters would be forgiven for almost forgetting that he is at the club.
Remarkably, no player loaned out since the start of Bielsa’s tenure has gone on to make a competitive appearance for Leeds upon returning.
However, Marsch has hinted that Bogusz could get the chance to end that run as he closes in on returning from injury.
“Let’s talk about Mateusz Bogusz. He has been working incredibly hard and has also been on the pitch and we’re hopeful that in a few weeks he can be in team training. So he maybe becomes an option,” he said, as reported by Leeds Live.
“I need to get to know him better and see him with our team but it’s exciting that he’s coming back strong.”
Bogusz could become an option for Leeds
Some Leeds fans may have their concerns about Marsch’s comments while the transfer window is open. Bogusz has not been the finished article. And it is clear that the Whites need to strengthen further in the final third.
But he is someone who would not struggle to adapt to Marsch’s style. And he does have that piece of magic up his sleeve. It seemed to be a regular occurrence for Leeds supporters to post videos of Bogusz scoring a stunner for Ibiza last season.
Obviously, Marsch is not getting carried away at this stage. But he could certainly be a surprise package if he gets a chance.
