Marsch must promote absolutely 'unplayable' 19-year-old at Leeds, he has a bright future at ER - TBR View
Leeds United Under-23s played their final match of this season’s Premier League 2 campaign on Friday evening.
The Whites took on Arsenal’s U23s at the Emirates Stadium, leaving London with a point in a 1-1 draw.
Leeds did enough to win the game, as they had plenty of chances and were on top for most of the encounter.
However, they now face an anxious wait regarding their status in the first division.
Leeds are currently 12th in the 14-team league, two points ahead of Chelsea, who have two games in hand.
Nonetheless, Mark Jackson and his players can be happy with how they’ve fared in the reserve top flight.
Several players from this year’s class will surely go out on loan next term or even step up to the first team.
One player who Jesse Marsch should consider for promotion is Lewis Bate.
The 19-year-old midfielder has enjoyed a superb maiden season at Thorp Arch.
Leeds signed Bate from Chelsea last summer for a reported £1.6million.
He hit the ground running at Leeds and capped his season off with a wonderful display against Arsenal.
Leeds Live gave him 8/10 and wrote: “Really turned it on at times in the second half as the team chased that crucial second goal.
“Low centre of gravity, power, dribbling and ability guided him past players for fun. Shots and passes caused problems across the final third.”
Bate has already made two senior appearances for Leeds, but next season Marsch should consider promoting him.
The likelihood is Marsch will take a look at Bate in pre-season.
Then he’ll decide whether to have him in the first team or send him out on loan to get experience.
One thing’s for sure though – Bate is too good for Premier League 2.
