Marsch lauded Robin Koch and Diego Llorente after Leeds win

Jesse Marsch has lauded both Diego Llorente and Robin Koch after Leeds United’s win over Chelsea on Sunday, suggesting – in comments reported by Leeds Live – that the pair are playing the best football of their careers right now.

Leeds have made a real statement in their third game of the season. The Whites played amazingly well as they beat Chelsea 3-0 at Elland Road.

It was a stunning performance from Leeds going forward. But they also did brilliantly to deal with any questions the Blues asked.

Illan Meslier made big saves. And Tyler Adams produced a colossal performance in front of the backline. But the centre-back pairing of Llorente and Koch were superb.

‘As good as I think they’ve played’

Koch in particular arguably produced his best display yet for Leeds. And Llorente seemed to get into the way of everything.

Many would have worried about how the Leeds backline would cope with Chelsea’s attacking players. But the Whites were ultimately comfortable. And Marsch has explained just how impressed he was with the backline as he discussed the first clean sheet of the season.

“It’s a goal of ours. I think we only had four last year in total, so we’ve talked a lot, we’ve created a team goals about clean sheets and giving up fewer goals. I think Pascal in this position that we’re playing him, you say left-back, left centre-back, it’s a little bit of a hybrid position, has adapted incredibly well,” he said, as reported by Leeds Live

“You see Robin and Diego I think playing also as good as I think they’ve played in their careers, and then Rasmus Kristensen, all the new guys have come in and Marc Roca has been incredible.”

Marsch lauded Llorente and Koch

Neither Koch or Llorente have had the easiest time since moving to Elland Road. Both men have spent lengthy periods out with injury. And they have not been able to establish a partnership.

That has partially been down to Liam Cooper’s superb form over the last 12 months, as well as the progress made by Pascal Struijk.

But, as things stand, it is hard to see how either Cooper or Struijk get back in at centre-back.

Leeds are looking superb right now. And the centre-back partnership between Koch and Llorente looks to have real potential.
