Aston Villa host Derby County at Villa Park tomorrow in a match that both sides need to win to get their Championship play-off pushes back on track.
Jack Marriott will likely line up for Frank Lampard’s Rams, having signed the striker from Peterborough in a deal that Sky Sports reported could rise to £5m if all the add-ons are fulfilled.
But the Daily Mail reported back in 2017 that Villa were watching the English striker, and a deal could have been done for £2.5m.
He went on to stun Villa in Posh’s 3-1 FA Cup third round win back in 2018 and now has the chance to put the boot into his former admirers again tomorrow.

Marriott has ten goals to his name so far this season in a campaign that has seen him make the jump up to the Championship with ease.
Villa were reluctant to take that risk – somewhat understandably – but have missed out and if Marriott nets in a Rams win tomorrow, it’s very tough to see Dean Smith’s side clawing their way back into the top six.
There have been bigger errors at Villa since they did not push forward with a deal for Marriott but the striker has a chance to show them what they’re missing tomorrow and he is more than capable of taking it.
