Marlon Harewood and Ravel Morrison have both responded on Instagram after Jesse Lingard scored two goals on his debut for West Ham United in a 3-1 win over Aston Villa – following his loan move from Manchester United.

Lingard, 28, has been heavily criticised over the course of the last few seasons. His social media personality has come under the spotlight, while his performances on the pitch have failed to match the personality off of it.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not hand Lingard a single minute of Premier League action this season, and with six months left on his contract at Old Trafford – Lingard has made the decision to leave the club, at least on loan.

West Ham are the beneficiaries. David Moyes, who worked with Lingard at United, threw him into the starting line-up on Wednesday night and it paid off – scoring a brace in a 3-1 win over Aston Villa.

Tomas Soucek opened the scoring but it was Lingard that set the game alight. While Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez will be disappointed at his attempts to keep Lingard’s strikes out – his overall display was excellent.

He was awarded the man-of-the-match award after the game and plenty of ex-players reacted to his performance on social media after the match – including ex-United and West Ham man Morrison, as well as Harewood.

Harewood commented on the above Instagram post, while Morrison uploaded to his story.
