Markus Henriksen makes Leeds claim after Elland Road defeat

Markus Henriksen has suggested that Leeds United’s performance against Bristol City confirmed his previously-held belief that Marcelo Bielsa’s side are the best footballing side in the Championship, in comments reported by Bristol Live.

Henriksen was handed a tough task as he made only his second appearance for the Robins. Lee Johnson’s side travelled to Elland Road looking to avoid defeat for the first time since Bielsa arrived in England.

Unfortunately for the visitors, it was to prove another disappointing afternoon. Luke Ayling scored the game’s only goal during the first-half.

And it is fair to say that Leeds deserved their three points. The home side absolutely dominated, and will have been disappointed that they did not win by a larger margin.

And Henriksen admitted after the game that Leeds lived up to the expectations he already had of Bielsa’s side.

“I think in my personal view that Leeds are the best footballing side in the Championship, that’s also the feeling I had last year playing against them with Hull,” he said, as reported by Bristol Live.

“So when you play against these types of teams, especially Leeds, when you have a chance you have to take it. You see the only way teams are scoring against them are set pieces or counter attacks because they go forward with a lot of people.”

TBR View – Leeds have potentially turned corner

It does appear that Leeds have potentially turned a corner. They were excellent at Brentford, and got back to winning ways against Bristol City.

And with none of the other current top seven winning their most recent games, this looks to be a real opportunity for the Whites.

It is obviously too soon to suggest that Leeds can go on a promotion-winning run from here. But they can certainly put themselves in a fantastic position ahead of the business end of the campaign.
