The Guardian have reported that Marko Grujic has opted against remaining in the Premier League with Brighton & Hove Albion, and has instead chosen to rejoin Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin.
Grujic, 23, was told he was allowed to go out on loan again this season with the competition for places in the middle of the park aplenty, including the likes of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jordan Henderson and more.
The Serbia international spent last season on loan at Hertha, but he only managed 23 appearances. In those outings, he did find the back of the net five times as well as laying on an assist.
Liverpool confirmed the exit of Grujic on their official Twitter account, while the Guardian claim that Grujic has chosen not to remain in England with Brighton – and indeed returns to Hertha.
The report also states that Liverpool will receive a loan fee of £2million, plus the potential of £500,000 bonuses. Hertha will also pay Grujic’s contract in full, which is worth £15,000 a week according to Spotrac.
TBR’s view
Grujic looks unlikely to break into Liverpool’s side at all, and although he is certainly a good player with the ability to play in the Premier League or the Bundesliga, he needs to be sold.
However, Liverpool are playing the situation well, using Grujic’s age to their advantage. Going out on loan and raking in a loan fee means the Reds can profit, while also keeping Grujic before selling him permanently.
