Hertha Berlin have given their Goal of the Month award for August to Liverpool loanee Marko Grujic for his goal in a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich.

The Serbian is the second player to receive such an award from his loan club after Harry Wilson claimed the same at Bournemouth.

Whereas Wilson scored a sublime free-kick against Manchester City though, Grujic won the award for a very ordinary goal against the reigning champions.

Berlin only netted two goals during the month and the 23-year-old just pipped Dodi Lukebakio to the accolade:

Following a decent start to the campaign, Grujic has been part of the Berlin team that has suffered consecutive 3-0 losses in the Bundesliga.

Grujic arrived at Liverpool in 2016 for £5.1 million from Red Star Belgrade (BBC Sport). Under Jurgen Klopp, he has played very little football and was allowed back to Berlin for a second stint in the summer.

Last season he netted five goals and claimed one assist in 23 appearances, featuring largely as a central midfielder.

TBR Verdict – Grujic honour must provide the catalyst for an impressive campaign

Some Liverpool fans were disgruntled when the Serbian youngster was allowed to Anfield on loan again in the summer.

There is a sense that he can have an impact at the club and some supporters might have liked to have seen him handed a chance this season.

Goals from the middle of the park are not something Klopp has a lot of within his ranks and there is hope that he can do that job in the future.

Right now, however, the £15,000-a-week (Spotrac) performer must showcase his talents in the Bundesliga.

Klopp and his staff will be keeping a close eye on his development this season and it is vital for the player to perform.

If the man with eight caps for his country wants a Liverpool chance then he must use this award to kick-on.

Scoring against Bayern will give him a big confidence boost and improving on last season’s goals and assists tally would be the ideal start.
