West Ham United striker Marko Arnautovic has suggested that he could leave the club in pursuit of playing at a higher level.

It’s an assessment most Hammers fans will have been absolutely dreading.

Arnautovic has been a revelation for the club following his £25 million move from Stoke City in the summer 2017.

Although it took him a couple of months to find his rhythm, the Austria international has been a brilliant signing.

West Ham fans are likely to recoil in horror at his latest comments though, with the forward implying hat he could leave in January, and that he trusts his brother agent.

Concerning words

Speaking to Kurier, as quoted by The Independent, he said: “I’m 29, so that’s the best age. It’s clear that I want to compete with the best players. But in this affair I totally trust my brother.

His brother Danijel then added: “He’s already playing in the Premier League and that’s where the best players are. But for a player like Marko this cannot be the end.

“He’s a big part of West Ham’s team but I think it’s possible to tease out more of him. For that to happen, he has to play for a top team. Marko is ready for the next step. A player like him should not play against relegation.”

It’ll all make for very disappointing reading for Irons fans, who adore Arnautovic and what he brings to the team.

The comments, certainly on his brother’s part are probably a bit too honest, verging on disrespectful.

West Ham can’t lose their talisman

Put simply, West Ham simply can’t allow him to leave in January.

Despite all their signings he remains their talisman.

He is the man who can tip the balance of any game and is often unplayable on his day.

West Ham fans will hope it’s all just hot air, but the comments are definitely a tad concerning.
