Former Celtic defender, Mark Wilson, has said that both Steve Clarke and Frank Lampard could be managers the Bhoys turn too to replace Neil Lennon.

Lennon has walked away from Celtic this morning. He leaves the club miles behind Rangers, and unable to snatch that elusive tenth title in a row up in the SFPL.

Naturally, talk is already underway as to who can take over from Lennon at Parkhead. A number of names have already been mentioned.

And Wilson, speaking to Sky Sports today, believes former Chelsea boss and England midfielder Lampard may be being considered.

“I see Steve Clarke as a frontrunner. But would he want to leave Scotland?,” Wilson said.

“Frank Lampard would be another interesting one. But, there’s split opinions on him. It will certainly be an interesting one for the Celtic heirarchy to appease the Celtic fans.”

Lampard recently lost his job with Chelsea but is widely respected in the footballing world. He took Derby County to the playoff final in his first managerial job, before guiding Chelsea to the Champions League last season.

TBR View: Lampard a risk for Celtic but one maybe worth taking

Bringing Lampard in would represent a huge shift for Celtic. He’s completely different to Lennon, both in terms of managerial style and tactical set up.

Lampard would surely relish the chance of going head to head with Steven Gerrard in Scotland. However, it’s also a huge job, and one he wouldn’t be afforded much patience in either.

Celtic, as Wilson says, have a huge call to make when it comes to this appointment.
