Mark Lawrenson has been quoted by BBC Sport’s Live coverage (Sunday, 19.32) of Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Leicester City that he has been impressed by summer signing Diogo Jota – and reckons the Portuguese ace can play in three different positions.
Jota, 23, scored his eighth goal for Liverpool on Sunday with a sumptuous finish as a patched-up Reds eased past Leicester City 3-0 at Anfield. A brilliant cross from Andy Robertson was deftly flicked into the net by Jota, showing his aerial prowess.
It has been a brilliant start to life for Jota at Liverpool. Amid the injuries, the £41million summer signing has thrived since his move from Wolverhampton Wanderers – even netting a hat-trick against Italian side Atalanta in the Champions League.

Liverpool icon Lawrenson raved about Jota even before the ex-Porto star netted his eighth of the season, and he raved about the Portugal international – claiming he can play anywhere in the front three.
“How comfortable does Jota look already,” Lawrenson said. “There’s always pressure regardless of your price tag, but he just looks already like he has been at Anfield for two or three years. He can play in any one of those three attacking roles too.”
TBR’s view – Is Jota the signing of the summer?
Certainly, he is up there. Tottenham have thrived with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in holding midfield, Wesley Fofana is an exciting prospect at Leicester, Thiago Silva, Edouard Mendy, Ben Chilwell and Timo Werner have all impressed at Chelsea.
But Jota is certainly up there. Amid Liverpool’s injury woes at the back, Jota has been a shining light for Klopp’s Liverpool – who sit joint first despite the absences of Virgil van Dijk and others. At just over £40million, Jota is a bargain.
