Mark Lawrenson predicts Southampton vs West Ham result
Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he has a sneaky feeling that Southampton are going to get their first win of the season when they face West Ham on Saturday.
The Hammers are one of the league’s pace-setters in the early stages. They have taken seven points from their opening three games.
No side has scored more than David Moyes’s men either. They have 10 goals under their belts already.
Southampton meanwhile, are awaiting their first victory of the campaign. They have taken two points from their opening three games.
Amongst those results was a very impressive performance against Manchester United at St Mary’s.
And Lawrenson has suggested that he believes that their wait for a win will come to an end this weekend.
“Southampton are another team without a victory so far but I think their performances have been better than their results in their first three games,” he told BBC Sport, as he predicted a 2-1 home win.
“West Ham, meanwhile, have won two out of three and would have a 100% record if they hadn’t let their lead slip twice at home against Crystal Palace before the international break.
“This is going to be close, but I just have a sneaky feeling Saints are going to snatch the points here, and end their wait for a win.”
Southampton vs West Ham: Hasenhuttl’s men must end dreadful run against Irons
Hasenhuttl has come up against West Ham six times as Southampton boss. And yet, he only has one point to show from those games.
The Irons have really appeared to have the Saints’ number in recent years.
In fairness, the Saints look to be a very different side this year. A number of key players left over the summer. And several exciting youngsters have come in.
Nevertheless, West Ham are playing with a lot of confidence. And they look absolutely lethal going forward.
So Southampton are going to have to produce something special to vindicate Lawrenson’s faith.
