Mark Lawrenson claims Leeds have a ‘soft centre’ defensively in prediction for Chelsea match

BBC Pundit Mark Lawrenson has predicted Leeds Untied to suffer defeat on Saturday night when they travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the Premier League.

The Whites go into the weekend’s contest off the back of an impressive 1-0 victory away to Everton and they currently sit 12th in the table after a strong return to the top-flight.

Meanwhile, upcoming opponents Chelsea are third in the standings and are beginning to really take shape this season as a new-look team under manager Frank Lampard.

Lawrenson has tipped Leeds to lose narrowly 2-1 against Chelsea and has highlighted their defence as the real “soft centre” in their side.

The Yorkshire giants have conceded 17 goals in 10 league games so far this campaign and the pace that their opponents have with the likes of Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic and Tammy Abraham will be a concern this weekend.

“Marcelo Bielsa’s side started the season well, but have had a mixed recent run of results which saw them ship four goals in two successive games. I think the quickness of the players among some Premier League sides have caused them problems. The soft centre in this team is defensively. The front players for Chelsea will be too good for Leeds,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

TBR’s View:

Leeds are always going to be vulnerable at the back with the way they play, but it’s worth noting they do have four clean sheets in their 10 league games so far and that is perhaps a statistic that is overlooked considering they’ve leaked quite a few in other matches.

Chelsea are perhaps one of the teams that possess the quickest attacks, especially if they decide to start with Pulisic as the left-winger and Werner through the middle.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men are still adjusting defensively to life in the top-flight, but they still have Spain international Diego Llorente to throw into the mix and overall there are definitely signs they are improving in that aspect.
