Mark Jackson picked Jeremiah Mullen out for praise in his post-match interview on LUTV after Leeds United’s under-21s were beaten by Salford City on Tuesday.

Leeds were knocked out of the Papa John’s Trophy after losing 5-3 against the League Two side.

At times, the Whites played some absolutely outstanding football going forward. But they had a particularly difficult time at the back.

Leeds seemed to make a number of small, but costly mistakes. Nevertheless, Jackson suggested that he was happy with what he saw from the 17-year-old in the clash with Salford.

“I thought Jeremiah Mullen, coming in today, was very good in certain elements of his play because he’s not been with us for a bit,” he told LUTV. “But he’s been putting in some good performances with the under-18s. So he deserved his chance tonight.”

Mullen another exciting centre-back prospect coming through at Leeds

Mullen has previously featured for the under-23s. And he did start the group-stage opener with Tranmere Rovers. However, he is yet to feature for Jackson’s side in Premier League 2 so far this season.

Leeds have a good group of young centre-backs coming through. Charlie Cresswell made his Premier League debut earlier this term, giving a very good account of himself against West Ham.

Meanwhile, the likes of Leo Hjelde, Kris Moore and Nohan Kenneh are also looking to catch the eye.

Mullen made some very good challenges on Tuesday night. And like all of his teammates, he certainly does not lack any bravery on the ball.

That is exciting considering that he does not even turn 18 until after the current campaign has concluded.

He has certainly impressed his manager. And he has further highlighted why the hopes are so high for so many young players at various levels at Thorp Arch.
