England may be out of the Under-19 European Championships but some of the players in the squad have made a name for themselves. Sunderland’s Ethan Embleton was excellent as was Adam Lewis, the Liverpool wing-back. But perhaps the best performing player of the lot was a Middlesbrough player.
Marcus Tavernier was outstanding for England throughout the tournament. The 19-year-old left-winger was playing in a more central position and thrived in England’s first two games.
He made Turkey toil in the 3-2 opening game win and scored the goal as England drew against Ukraine in their second match. In the unfortunate 5-0 thrashing dealt out by France, Tavernier was one of the few bright sparks for England.

Last season the teenager made his debut for the Boro first-team and then headed out on loan to MK Dons. But there is no reason why he cannot have an even better season in 2018-19.
Teams are clamouring to have the Boro youngster, the little brother to Rangers full-back James Tavernier, on loan next term. He could easily be a first-teamer at a League One club based on his displays in Finland this summer.
If not, then Tony Pulis will have to give him chances in the Middlesbrough first-team this campaign.
