Tottenham Hotspur fans were left happy earlier this week with the news that star young talent Reo Griffiths looks set to remain at the club for another season at least – according to Football.London. The talented teenager scored 33 goals for the club’s youth team last term and is considered one of their hottest prospects. So much so, that teams from abroad have been looking into his signature. The likes of RB Leipzig, Barcelona and Juventus have all been mentioned.
But whilst many Spurs fans are calling on him to immediately be thrust into the first-team picture, other reports from this week must serve as a warning for the young attacker.
It looks as though Marcus Edwards and Shayon Harrison could both be leaving the club. Two years ago, they were in a similar position to Griffiths. Tottenham fans wanted to see them get a chance in the first-team after impressive displays in the youth sector at Hotspur Way.
However, neither got or seized such a chance.
Now it appears both could leave this summer, according to Football.London.
It would be a massive shame to see both leave, but the truth is neither have done enough to give Tottenham a genuine reason to keep them in North London.
Griffiths must make sure he does not fall into the same trap. He had a brilliant season, but if the 17-year-old wants to make it in the long-term progression into the under-23s is needed before he can be bumped straight to the first-team.
Harrison and Edwards are fine examples that talent is not everything in football and Griffiths cannot rest on his laurels at Spurs.
