Tottenham Hotspur youngster Marcus Edwards has thanked top-tier Dutch side Excelsior on Instagram after his loan spell finished, which sees him return to Spurs.
The 20-year-old has failed to live up to the enormous hype surrounding his name, managing only one senior Spurs appearance under Mauricio Pochettino. Now out of his teens, he really needs to start showing his quality.
The England youth international had little chance of breaking into Spurs’ first team this season, so he was loaned out. In a somewhat surprising move, he joined Excelsior in the Netherlands – but it has not been beneficial.
Indeed, he played only 28 times in all competitions for Excelsior – and only last the entire 90 minutes 10 times. He has posted on Instagram, thanking the Dutch team for his time at the club, in which Excelsior suffered relegation.

TBR’s view
Edwards only has a contract at Tottenham until the end of the 2019-20 campaign, so the chances of him proving to Mauricio Pochettino that he can shine for the north Londoners is wearing thin.
He needs to go out on loan again this summer, but perhaps to an English team. If he them impresses with a side that Spurs can keep an eye on, perhaps he may be given more of a chance. But it seems unlikely.
