Marcus Edwards must aim to replicate Mason Mount’s success to save Spurs career

Tottenham Hotspur wonderkid Marcus Edwards must take inspiration from Mason Mount as he embarks on an exciting chapter in his career.

Mount’s meteoric rise from Eredivisie football to a senior England call-up must be the motivation for Edwards this season.

Edwards’ career has failed to take off just yet. Many expected big things from the starlet dubbed the “mini Messi”.

But his loan spell at Norwich City last season indicated that he is far from ready for first-team football.

The teenager made just one appearance for the Canaries before returning to Spurs for “personal reasons”. This prompted questions over his attitude after it emerged that he was late to every single training session.

If the talented attacking midfielder wants to make it to the big stage in football, he needs to start applying himself.

And Mount is the perfect example for him to follow.

The 19-year-old moved from Chelsea to Vitesse last season and lit up the Eredivisie with 14 goals and 10 assists.

This season, Mount has five goals and one assist on loan at Derby County, which earned him a call-up to the England squad.

Edwards has played five games for Excelsior so far and has one assist to his name. But he needs to replicate Mount’s Dutch success to save his Spurs career.

If the 19-year-old can follow in the footsteps of Mount, then the sky is the limit.
