Marcus Edwards burst onto the scene for Tottenham back in 2016. Likened to Lionel Messi by Mauricio Pochettino, his career has stalled over the past two years. Question marks over his effort in training arose after a poor spell on loan at Norwich City.
In the summer, Edwards was linked with a permanent exit from Spurs. However, he impressed during pre-season enough for Tottenham to keep hold of him, with a loan move to Dutch side Excelsior the reward.
“The qualities – it’s only looks, his body and the way that he plays – remember a little bit from the beginning of Messi.”
But, to be frank, most Tottenham fans have probably forgotten about him during the season. Edwards struggled for any real form in Rotterdam and fans began to wonder if he could ever realise his immense talent.

Well finally, he is starting to show that he can.
Tottenham fans will be pleased to know that since December, Edwards has won his place back in the regular starting XI for his loan club. At the weekend, he put in his best performance yet. Edwards scored one and assisted another in a 2-1 win over FC Emmen.
The youngster has been on the radar for so long now it is easy to forget he is still only 20-years-old. A confidence player, it could be this is the kick he needs to push on until the end of the season.
With Tottenham being linked with multi-million-pound deals for young British talent in the Football League, it could be Edwards is a major money saver if Spurs decide to give him a chance.
In the past, they have done the same with Harry Kane and Harry Winks, both working with aplomb.
Perhaps Edwards can follow in their footsteps after all.
