Rojo may now move abroad where the transfer window remains open.

Marcos Rojo was apparently fuming that his move to Everton didn’t go through on transfer deadline day, according to the Daily Mail.

They report that the £80,000-a-week (Spotrac) defender has slipped down the pecking order at Manchester United but the Red Devils couldn’t do the deal with the Toffees in time.

And the Sun now report that Rojo could well move to Europe, where the transfer market remains open until the start of September.

So have Everton missed the boat over the signing of the defender? They still need a centre back, but it seems unlikely Rojo will still be on the market come January.

Rojo wouldn’t have been a gamechanger, or perhaps even Marco Silva’s first choice, but he would have added experienced cover at centre half.

Not getting him leaves Everton short at centre half – no doubt about that – especially after Matthew Pennington left for Hull on loan on deadline day.

And if Silva wants to dip into the loan market in January to solve that problem, the chances are that Rojo will have moved on loan to the continent, leaving the Portuguese to go even further down his list of targets.
