Everton have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Joao Mario from Inter Milan this summer. As reported by the Daily Mail the Euro 2016 winner is available for £15 million and Everton have been informed of his availability.
With Everton facing a losing battle over the future of Idrissa Gana Gueye and Andre Gomes’ only on loan, bringing in another midfielder would certainly make sense.
Mario has also proven himself capable in English football. He showcased some great form during his half-season spell on loan at West Ham United in 2017-18.
Of course, Everton boss Marco Silva will also know him well. The Portuguese pair worked together at Sporting Lisbon. Silva was Mario’s boss in the 2014-15 season at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.
During that season, Mario played his way into the Sporting starting XI under Silva’s guidance. He featured in 45 games, scoring seven goals and providing five assists.
Silva in fact pulled Mario back from the edge in the Portuguese capital. He spent the second half of the previous season at Vitoria Setubal on loan and many felt he might not make it at Sporting.
Silva is clearly a fan and at just £15 million Mario would be an absolute bargain for Everton in their quest to strengthen the centre of midfield.
