A year ago today it was being reported that Everton boss Marco Silva was a big fan of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.
The Mirror suggested that Silva had been ‘scouting’ the Swiss international. It came the day after Everton had secure the signature of Richarlison from Watford and amid reports Everton were ready to continue targeting young talent.
No deal ever came off. Everton got Portuguese international Andre Gomes in their sights and eventually signed him from Barcelona on loan, a deal which was made permanent this summer.

But now, a year down the line, Everton might want to rekindle their interest in the player.
It seems Idrissa Gana Gueye is on his way out of Everton this summer. PSG are strongly interested in the Senegal captain and, as reported by The Guardian, the Toffees are resigned to letting him go.
Zakaria could be the perfect replacement. The 22-year-old plays in a similar style to Gueye and has all the attributes Everton appear to be looking for. As reported by The Sun last summer, Zakaria was valued at £36 million by his current club Borussia Monchengladbach.
With Le Parisien reporting that the fee for Gueye is likely to be in the region of £29 million, Everton could easily use the money from his sale to help facilitate Zakaria’s arrival.
Plenty of names are bound to be linked with Everton if Gueye does indeed seal his move to PSG this summer. Zakaria will, hopefully, be one of them.
