Marco Negri urges Alfredo Morelos to leave Rangers, with Italian side linked

Marco Negri has told the Sunday Post that Alfredo Morelos should consider leaving Rangers amid reported interest from Serie A side Lazio – claiming that Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi can take the Colombian to the next level.

Morelos, 24, has scored a whopping 77 goals in 137 appearances since joining Rangers from HJK Helsinki in the summer of 2017. Last season, the Colombian enjoyed his best season – scoring 29 goals and creating 10 more.

However, Morelos has been linked with a move to Lazio. ItaSportPress claim Lazio want to sign the striker as a potential replacement for Ciro Immobile – who has been linked with big-money moves to England or Juventus.

Former Rangers star Negri believes Morelos should consider a move to Lazio in the coming weeks as Inzaghi would improve him – using the example of former Manchester City striker Felipe Caicedo’s development at Lazio.

Inzaghi’s side are currently fourth in Serie A, but have a game in hand and a win could take them into third – which would promise qualification for the Champions League.

“I think Morelos’ experience at Rangers is ending.” Negri said.“He will probably change clubs and I’d like to see him in Italy. Lazio can be the right team for him. Why? Because I believe Simone Inzaghi is an excellent coach.

“We have already seen the work he has done on Felipe Caicedo. Morelos has physical strength. He appears overweight but, in reality, he is not fat, he is all muscle. But he must definitely improve in the air.”

TBR’s view – Should Rangers cash in, and at what price?

Morelos is a top, top striker and can create goals out of nothing. He has proved in the Europa League – as well as the Scottish Premiership – that he can score on a regular basis against excellent defenders.

So a move to Lazio is not something that would place Morelos out of his comfort zone. Should Rangers cash in on the striker? They should be more open to selling him after he netted just one league goal since Christmas.

If Rangers fetch a fee in the region of £20million, or even slightly less – perhaps £18million – they should sanction a move. But anything less than £18million, surely Rangers should look to keep the six-time Colombia international.
