Marco Asensio linked with Manchester United – could a move happen?

Marco Asensio has been heavily linked with the Premier League all summer and it is reported that Manchester United have made a late bid to sign him. According to Diario Gol, Jose Mourinho offered €55 million for the talented midfielder during negotiations for Gareth Bale. However, this was quickly rejected as Real Madrid see him as an important player for their future.

Florentino Perez is wary that the Spanish international has a release clause of €80 million and wants to increase that to €600 million to warn off interested clubs. The report goes on to state that Asensio has had talks with Zinedine Zidane and has been guaranteed more minutes this season. This means that the midfielder won’t seek a move away from the Bernabeu as he will be given what he wants by the current holders of the Champions League.

What would he add?

Manchester United already have a talented squad, but there is always room for additions, especially if they have the potential that Asensio possesses. The Spanish midfielder is heading to the very top of the game and has already wowed supporters at the Bernabeu. He is composed in possession and is dynamic in his style, as he can beat opposition defenders with ease.

The youngster is skilful and has a good turn of pace, but it is his shooting ability from range that has made people sit up and take notice. He scored two incredible goals against Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup and has already scored twice in the league. Asensio is confident on the ball and willing to be positive in possession, which makes him great to watch.

How likely is a transfer to Old Trafford?

This one looks to be an optimistic approach from Manchester United. They know that Real Madrid are vulnerable due to the midfielder’s release clause, but it remains unlikely that a deal will be clinched. Asensio looks to be happy at the Bernabeu and has been given assurances over playing time. If that hadn’t been forthcoming from the club, a departure may have happened.

Real Madrid were always likely to give those to him as he is already good enough to play in the first team. In their last match against Valencia, he was the best player on the pitch as he scored two goals and delivered an impressive overall display. They know he is the future of the club and he isn’t going anywhere.
