Marcelo Brozovic shows why Tottenham Hotspur have been interested for a long time

Tottenham have long been linked with a move for the Croatian international.

Tottenham Hotspur kept their hopes of Champions League football alive last night with a 1-0 win over Inter Milan at Wembley. Christian Eriksen’s 80th-minute strike proved enough for Spurs to take qualification to the final game against Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

It was a brilliant performance from Spurs but once again several Inter players impressed. J?ust as he did in the 2-1 win at the San Siro, Marcelo Brozovic excelled for Inter.

Tottenham fans were certainly annoyed at some of his spoiling tactics, but they worked early on. His passing was, as ever, superb and it continues his brilliant form this season.

Brozovic, who looked surplus to requirements at Inter in January, has since become one of the first names on the teamsheet for the Nerazzurri. He also helped Croatia to the World Cup final in the summer.

When he was being linked with an exit in January, Tottenham were quickly mentioned as a potential location.

The Croatian is something of a long-term target at Spurs. In the summer, Spurs were linked again. SportsKE suggested that Tottenham were £9 million short of Inter’s asking price to sign the player.

Now, after seeing him in action twice, Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino will no doubt have him on the radar as a potential Mousa Dembele replacement.

Brozovic recently had a contract option exercised in his deal that extends his stay at Inter to 2022. It also sees his release clause sitting at €60 million (£53.4 million) which would be a record transfer for Tottenham.

But if he fills a midfield void, Brozovic might be worth the splurge.
