Marcelo Bielsa’s policy of youth promotion should convince Luca Murphy to join Leeds United

Ahead of the summer transfer window, Luca Murphy has a major career decision to make. The young defender has been inundated with offers from various clubs in England.

According to TEAMtalk, Murphy is a target for Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds United, Newcastle United and eight others.

The 17-year-old is available on a free transfer, having left Hartlepool United by mutual consent recently.

Murphy left the National League side after failing to agree terms on a professional contract and now he is one of the most in-demand young players around.

With so many options, Murphy will need to take his time to make an important decision. But Leeds’ interest will surely tempt Murphy.

There is a clear route to the first-team from the academy at Leeds and this is something that Murphy will have to take into consideration.

The talented teenager could follow the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Jack Clarke to become regulars in the Leeds line-up.

There are other youngsters – such as Clarke Oduor, Aapo Halme and Jamie Shackleton – who have all tasted first-team football since Marcelo Bielsa took over.

Bielsa’s policy of promoting and trusting in his youth players should tempt Murphy to move to Elland Road.

And with Leeds’ current centre-back ranks depleted, Murphy could be eyeing a first-team promotion sooner than he might have otherwise expected.
