Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has been speaking ahead of the Whites’s crucial clash with Aston Villa this weekend.
Bielsa was in good spirits despite seeing his side lose to Wolves on Monday and offered updates on team news and selection problems, including the injury blow to Kalvin Phillips.
However, on the of the talking points in recent weeks has been the new contract given to long-serving defender, Gaetano Berardi.
The experienced campaigner has been with the Whites since 2014 and played a key role in the club’s rise back to the top. And Bielsa, speaking in his press conference today, was quick to point out the role Berardi has in his squad.
“He is a reference to all of his team mates, his opinion is one that he changing room listens to and also the staff and when he he is able to recover he will bring something to the team as he always does,” Bielsa said. (YEP)
Berardi is currently out with injury in what was a cruel blow that robbed the defender of his chance to make his Premier League bow in recent weeks.
The additions, too, of Robin Kock and Diego Llorente will push Berardi further down the pecking order. But Bielsa’s comments suggest he will have a role to play, no matter how big or small.
Nice words from a good manager, Berardi will get his chance – TBR View
This is a good touch from Bielsa and the comments on Berardi are well-deserved. The defender has been the model professional for Leeds and is always their Mr Dependable when called upon.
Hopefully, Leeds will be more than safe by the time he’s back and Bielsa will have chance to give him plenty of minutes.
If anyone in this Leeds squad deserves to make his bow at the highest level, then it’s Berardi.
