Leeds United could do with a left-back before the end of the January window with Stuart Dallas being asked to play in numerous positions – and Marcelo Bielsa should consider raiding one of his former sides, amid a new report.
Dallas has been deployed at right-back, in the middle of the park and at left-back as Bielsa uses the industrious Northern Ireland international to cope with the club’s recent injury issues.
Gjanni Alioski has been okay, if somewhat inconsistent – with his current contract expiring in the summer. Talks have dried up on that front, while Barry Douglas remains on loan at Blackburn but will leave in the summer.
A new left-sided defender might be considered then, and the latest report from the Telegraph should hand Leeds the ideal chance to solve the emerging issue. That is because Jordan Amavi wants to return to the Premier League.
Currently playing for Bielsa’s former side Marseille, Amavi is one of the first names on the team sheet when fit. Initially joining on loan from Aston Villa in 2017 before a move was made permanent, he has played 119 times.
He played five of the club’s six Champions League games this season, before suffering a muscle injury – and has even been called up to the France side. But the Telegraph state that he wants to return to the Premier League.
Leeds have got to consider a move. Speed, trickery and the crossing ability of a winger, Amavi has had a hand in 13 goals during his time at Marseille – scoring three and creating 10. He would be the ideal Bielsa left-back.
Raiding his old side for a player that Villa sold for just £9million in 2018 (Birmingham Mail), Bielsa would bring in a proper player that solves the left-back issue – but also massively improves what he already has.
