Marcelo Bielsa says he ‘can’t praise’ Jack Harrison for Leeds performances this season

Leeds United manager, Marcelo Bielsa, has said that he cannot praise winger Jack Harrison this season for his performance levels.

Harrison, 24, has been a regular for Leeds again this season but as yet, hasn’t contributed a goal or an assist this term. His form is akin to that of many in the Leeds squad. After nine games, the Whites have won just once, with four draws and four defeats.

Further, Leeds have scored just eight goals. They’ve conceded 16, which has meant they’re firmly in the relegation mix as things stand.

And speaking ahead of this weekend’s game with Norwich City, Marcelo Bielsa admitted that the form of Jack Harrison is not where it should be.

“You ask me a question where you know that I can’t praise his performances up until now. But what’s happening to Harrison is happening to all our players in the squad where they have better or worse moments and nobody is able to maintain a regular consistency in their performances especially when they are playing in attack,” Bielsa told Leeds Live.

“Harrison is a player with a lot of resources to be able to play on both wings and we’ve enjoyed his contributions. Harrison will continue to shine or will shine again in proportion to the faculties that he has and it’s my job to put him in situations in the game where he’s able to shine and to make him as important as I feel that he is. Of course any question that invites public criticism for my players, I reject.”

TBR’s View: Jack Harrison has enough to turn it around for Leeds

Last season showed what the former Manchester City man is all about with Leeds. Eight goals and eight assists saw Harrison make a big contribution to the cause at Elland Road.

The 24-year-old has it in his locker, and he will more than likely come good when the rest of the team does. Of course, you could argue that the onus is on Harrison to help turn that round.

But overall, as Bielsa says, Harrison will suffer inconsistencies at times. It’s about how he bounces back. Leeds fans will be hoping the start of that bounceback comes this weekend.
