Marcelo Bielsa praises Jamie Shackleton for Leeds display against Watford
Leeds United got their Premier League season properly up and running with a fine 1-0 win in the rain against a tricky Watford team.
Elland Road was drenched through as the Whites welcomed the Hornets to West Yorkshire looking for their first win of the season. And the Leeds XI duly delivered on the day, winning 1-0 thanks to a goal by Diego Llorente.
Marcelo Bielsa played both Daniel James and Raphinha from the start and the pair were a threat to Watford throughout the 90 minutes. Stuart Dallas played in midfield once again, while Liam Cooper also excellent.
The Leeds boss shared the opinion that some of his team were good today, and he included young Jamie Shackleton in that. The midfielder did outstandingly well, and Bielsa name-checked him after the game.
“There were some players who shone. I thought Jamie Shackleton evolved, Diego Llorente came back well, Kalvin Phillips had influence and Tyler Roberts came in very well, plus the rest were all at a level of medium upwards,” Bielsa told Leeds’ official website.
TBR’s View: Shackleton growing into a fine player for Leeds
Shackleton has been patient at Leeds but this season he really seems to be coming into his own when given the minutes. He was good today once again, and looks at home now in the Premier League.
At 21, you have say Shackleton is already looking a real talent for Leeds who can take them into the future. He does, of course, have a lot to learn.
But with performances like today, and praise from Bielsa, the young Elland Road star can look forward to a bright future.
