Marcelo Bielsa has insisted that it is not common for a player with the ability of Raphinha to work so hard for the team, and claimed that that is why he is valued so much by all those at Leeds United – in comments reported by Leeds Live.

What’s the story?

Raphinha was, once again, the star of the show on Saturday as the Whites secured their first win of the campaign in the Premier League.

The Brazilian was outstanding as Leeds beat Watford. Unsurprisingly, he often looked like he was going to create something whenever he got onto the ball.

But he also shone by working so hard for Bielsa’s men. And the Leeds boss admitted after the game that the 24-year-old does things that you rarely see from players with his quality.

“It’s not common [for a flair player to work like that],” he said, as reported by Leeds Live. “He’s a player that stands out. Due to standing out he does not demand privileges. All the opposite he takes on more obligations, even more so.

“That’s why he’s a player that’s valued so much by all of us due to his humility and his capacity of effort. [That’s] Not common when accompanied with that talent.”

Some of Leeds’ performances this term have been very good. They were superb for much of the first-half against West Ham.

Nevertheless, it would have been a huge relief that they did finally win in the league.

But that relief should not take attention away from those who were excellent against the Hornets.

Raphinha may have been the standout for many. But Dan James arguably produced his best display for Leeds. Diego Llorente meanwhile, reminded everyone why many consider him to be the Whites’ best centre-back.

Several others also stepped up. And Leeds are now able to look at the season quite differently heading into the international break after getting that first victory.
