Marcelo Bielsa names Leeds star who played well vs West Ham
Marcelo Bielsa has praised Rodrigo after Leeds United’s agonising defeat to West Ham on Saturday, suggesting that the Spaniard played well again – in comments reported by Leeds Live.
What’s the story?
Leeds’ tough start to the campaign continued at the weekend. Raphinha had given them the lead against the Hammers.
And they had chances to kill the game off. However, they were punished and conceded twice during the second-half, with the winner coming in the 90th minute.
Of course, the winner was a punch in the gut for Leeds fans. But the punch had even more force behind it because of how well the Whites had played at times.
And Rodrigo was at the heart of a lot of what Leeds did well. The Spaniard played up front and reminded everyone just how impressive he can be.
And Bielsa suggested that he was extremely happy with the 30-year-old’s contribution, once again.
“He played well against Newcastle, Fulham and he played well again today,” he said, as reported by Leeds Live. “[He has been] Having continuity and influence in our offensive game.”
Rodrigo has big opportunity for Leeds with Patrick Bamford sidelined
One of the players currently on the sidelines for Leeds is Patrick Bamford. He has missed their last two games.
It remains to be seen how long he is out for. There is no question that his absence is a huge loss for Leeds.
However, the injury presents Rodrigo with a massive opportunity.
Fans have been imploring Bielsa to find another way of using him. He has not been as impressive in the number 10 role.
He is going to have to produce something special to stop Bamford reclaiming his spot upon his return.
But the early signs are positive.
