In comments reported by Leeds Live, Marcelo Bielsa has admitted that he is not sure how long Adam Forshaw is going to be out for as he discussed the Leeds United midfielder’s groin injury.

Forshaw has made one appearance for the Whites since the end of August. He had initially returned from injury and came on for the second-half of the side’s defeat to Charlton Athletic.

However, the 28-year-old has not featured in any of the Whites’ last four games. And Bielsa suggested ahead of the weekend’s clash with Sheffield Wednesday that it is still unclear when he will make his return.

“He has a problem with the groin. It’s an injury that is not easy to deal with. A difficult situation. And it’s not easy to get the process of recover,” he said, as reported by Leeds Live.

“The reason we don’t have clear reference, the evolution of his process is not linear.

“This kind of injury you have high and low until you heal this injury in the definitive way.

“What we have is that Adam is a great professional. He is working hard to try and get out of this situation. The same with the medical staff, they help him. They are involved to try and improve the situation.”

Forshaw was arguably one of the most heavily criticised players during Bielsa’s first season in charge. However, the midfielder has enjoyed a dramatic turnaround in fortunes.

The former Middlesbrough man has been superb in the middle of the park this year. His energy looked to be incredibly important as he linked the play between Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich.

Jamie Shackleton performed well when he came in. But his own injury once again highlighted how influential Forshaw had become for Bielsa’s side.

And it looks to be a real blow for Leeds that the club appear to have little idea of how long it will be before Forshaw is back available.
