Marcelo Bielsa makes Adam Forshaw claim after Leeds win
Marcelo Bielsa has backed Adam Forshaw to be a player who could really shine this season after the midfielder made his Leeds United return on Tuesday – in comments reported by Leeds Live.
Forshaw had waited almost two years for a first-team appearance before being named in the starting lineup for the Carabao Cup tie with Crewe at Elland Road.
It proved to be a hugely successful occasion for the 30-year-old. Leeds booked their spot in the third round with a 3-0 victory. And Forshaw got an hour under his belt.
The Whites, of course, have been linked with strengthening their midfield options in this window. Lewis O’Brien looks to be the key target heading into the final days.
But perhaps Forshaw has shown why Leeds have not dived in and made Huddersfield an offer they cannot refuse for the 22-year-old.
Certainly, Bielsa has suggested that the former Middlesbrough man has a big role to play in the coming months if he can continue to build up his fitness.
“Forshaw is very well prepared,” he said, as reported by Leeds Live. “He sacrificed a lot in these last two months.
“Progressively, if he keeps healthy and acquires the competition rhythm, he has all the virtues to be a player that can shine.”
Leeds set for huge boost if Forshaw picks up where he left off before injury
It does appear that Bielsa has been a big fan of Forshaw throughout his time at Elland Road.
But for the fans, it seemed that it was only at the beginning of the 2019/20 campaign that the midfielder really shone.
He was outstanding in the opening weeks of that campaign. It certainly seemed to be his best spell in a Leeds shirt.
It could be huge if he is now able to rediscover something like that form. Of course, that is asking a lot.
Forshaw has been out for almost two years. And Leeds are now playing at a higher level.
But clearly, Bielsa believes that it is possible.
