Marcelo Bielsa has issued an encouraging injury update on Raphinha, with the Leeds United boss suggesting that he does not expect the winger to be out for too long, in comments reported by Leeds Live.

Raphinha is still awaiting his first start for the Whites following his £17 million summer move (via BBC Sport). However, there is already a big buzz around the 23-year-old, as there have been a couple of glimpses of real quality to whet the appetite.

Unfortunately for Leeds fans, they did not get to see him on Monday night. The Whites confirmed on their official website ahead of their clash with Leicester City that he had sustained an ankle injury.

Worryingly, the club did not suggest how serious the problem was. However, Bielsa has alleviated the fans’ concerns following their defeat.

“It is an injury that will not take long to heal,” he said, as reported by Leeds Live.

Leeds supporters would have been forgiven for really ruing not having Raphinha available on Monday. The Whites were soundly beaten by the Foxes at Elland Road.

But there was a moment in which Leeds had a real opening. Stuart Dallas had given the home side a lifeline shortly after half-time. At that stage, the score was 2-1 and Leeds seemed to be on top.

Raphinha would have been a fantastic player to bring on at that stage.

It remains to be seen how long he will be out for. But Leeds supporters will be relieved to hear that he does not look set for a long stint on the sidelines.
