Marcelo Bielsa favourite Mauricio Isla comments on Boca Juniors interest amid Leeds United link

Leeds United have recently been linked with a move for Chilean utility star Mauricio Isla. TyC Sports is reporting that the 32-year-old free agent is wanted by Leeds, with Marcelo Bielsa a key reason behind that interest.

Bielsa managed Isla during his time as Chile boss and then desperately sought his signature at Marseille, eventually getting his man.

It would be a decent get for Leeds. Isla has Premier League experience with QPR and can play in a variety of different positions.

But it would seem Leeds have a battle on their hands to secure the player.

Isla has also been linked with Argentine giants Boca Juniors and he has confirmed that he is in talks with the Azul y Oro regarding a potential move.

“If I go to Boca, I go 100%,” Isla told Olé. “I will not be there for five months and then come to Europe. It is not about money. If things turn out, of course, you want to play in the best team in South America.

“Boca is on par with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus because Boca Juniors has always had everything. But you have to speak calmly.”

Leeds United need to bring in new recruits this summer and Isla would be a trusted lieutenant for Bielsa, given their history.

However, considering his age and the fact a Leeds youngster like Jamie Shackleton operates in a similar role, a deal for the veteran does not make much sense.

It might be best for Leeds to leave Isla for Boca to pick up this summer.
