Injuries are beginning to take their toll on Leeds United, but there could be an unexpected consequence on Saturday afternoon against Brentford for Marcelo Bielsa.
It would come if Leeds’ incredible 49 match run without having won a penalty comes to an end, given that the only player in the squad to have taken a penalty for Leeds is Pablo Hernandez, who has not featured since scoring against Norwich.
No other player in the squad has taken a penalty for the club within 90 or 120 minutes, with Hernandez’s miss against Reading on 14 October, 2017, the last time the Whites had the chance to score from 12 yards.

From the likely line-up to face the Bees, it could be a tough choice to make. It may be hard to imagine that Bielsa would wish to put such pressure on the shoulders of young Tyler Roberts, for example.
Instead, Samu Saiz or Mateusz Klich may be more likely suggestions to step up, though it is hard to know Bielsa’s thinking after such a long spell without receiving a foul in the box.
After claims against Hull in midweek, if the barren spell does come to an end against Brentford at Elland Road then there could be a choice to make for the coach.
