Marcelo Bielsa delivers triple injury boost as Leeds prepare to host Brentford

Leeds United take on Brentford on Sunday afternoon and Marcelo Bielsa has told his press conference – as per YEP – that he expects to have Patrick Bamford, Pascal Struijk and Luke Ayling available.

Bamford, 28, has been a real miss for Leeds. The striker has now missed 10 Premier League games in a row, due a troublesome ankle injury. Last season, he had a hand in 25 goals in 38 Premier League matches.

This season, he scored on and laid on two assists in seven games. But it is his hold-up play, his ability to dictate two centre-backs, that opens up space for his teammates. Leeds desperately need him back.

Struijk’s form this season has been excellent, and it continues to get better – despite playing in numerous positions. Ayling, of course, finally gives Leeds that right-sided stability they so crave.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash against newly-promoted Brentford, who lost 2-0 to Tottenham on Thursday night, Bielsa gave an exciting update on the three injury concerns.

“It is likely that they [Bamford and Ayling] will be available for the game,” Bielsa told his press conference. “We think he will be available for the game, he has a knock around his hip but we think he will be available.”

Bielsa on Ayling, Bamford and Struijk: Huge boost for Brentford clash

Having won only their third game of the Premier League season on Tuesday night, a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, Leeds now have an excellent chance to make it four in 15 on Sunday afternoon.

Brentford are in poor form. They have lost five of their last seven league games, picking up a possible four from 28. So, with a massive chance to make it two wins in a row, Leeds will be delighted to welcome back their stars.

Bamford clocked up 90 minutes against Manchester City’s Under-23 side on Monday and Ayling got 45. It is likely that we will see both players get some game time off the bench on Sunday.
