Marcelo Bielsa closely monitoring Nahitan Nandez as Leeds United land transfer boost
According to Calciomercato.it, Marcelo Bielsa is closely monitoring Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez as Leeds United set their sights on a summer transfer.
Bielsa is personally keeping track of Nandez’s progress at the Serie A side and could look to bring him to West Yorkshire after a successful first year back in the Premier League.
Nandez was a fixture of the Cagliari unit in 2020/21 with starting roles in 31 of his 32 league appearances, while adding two goals and three assists from deep-lying and wide positions.
Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani is noted to share an excellent relationship with Gli Isolani’s President Tommaso Giulini, which could aid the Whites’ efforts in the transfer window.
Giulini is willing to negotiate a fee below Nandez’s €36million (£31m) release clause and is open to offers. Reports by asromalive.it add Cagliari expect to sell the Uruguayan and that a move to Roma is less likely after hiring Jose Mourinho.
TBR’s View: Nandez is perfect for Leeds
Bielsa personally tracking Nandez and monitoring his situation in Italy shows how highly the Leeds boss rates the Uruguayan, who would be the perfect summer signing for the Whites.
Nandez would add plenty of energy to the engine room at Elland Road but also versatility, in his ability to play out on the wings as well as protecting the backline from the centre.
The 25-year-old came on strongly in that respect this season to show his tactical knowledge almost every week, which was ultimately crucial to Cagliari avoiding relegation.
Leeds may yet face competition from West Ham United, Inter Milan and Napoli. But the relationship shared between Radrizzani and Giulini could work in their favour and allow a deal below Nandez’s release clause.
