Marcelo Bielsa has suggested, in comments reported by Leeds Live, that Jean-Kevin Augustin is unlikely to make his Leeds United debut against Millwall on Tuesday after the striker became the Whites’ latest signing.
Leeds announced on their official website that they have completed a deal to take Augustin on loan for the rest of the season. The club also confirmed that they have the option to make his switch permanent in the summer.
It is the news that many Leeds fans were desperate for. The Whites certainly needed to land a new striker this month with Eddie Nketiah returning to Arsenal at the start of the month.
And with Patrick Bamford struggling for form right now, some may have been hoping that Augustin may come straight into the side for Tuesday’s clash with the Lions.
However, Bielsa suggested that the game will probably come too soon for the 22-year-old.
“I don’t think he’s going to be involved tomorrow. He arrived today,” he said, as reported by Leeds Live.
Bielsa also explained what he expects Augustin to bring to the side.
“He’s a centre forward with movement, mobility. He’s involved in the combined play from the team. And he has a lot of presence in the box and he’s going to be useful for the needs we have,” he also said.
TBR View – Major coup for Leeds
It looks to be a massive coup for Leeds to sign the forward. He has previously shone in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig.
Leeds need someone to capitalise on the number of chances they create. Bamford has done that at times. But he has also come in for a lot of criticism more recently.
The stage looks to be set for Augustin to perhaps make himself a hero at Elland Road over the coming months.
But it appears that the Leeds fans will have to wait a little longer to see their new signing in action for the first time.
